The Joyous Memorial of Songkran Festival at the vKirirom Pine Resort
On 6th April 2024, vKirirom Pine Resort and Kirirom Institute of Technology celebrated the Songkran Festival before the Khmer New Year, which is a traditional festival in Cambodia. This event happened because the organizer from KIT students collaborated with vKirirom Pine Resort by providing a wonderful program for all the participants. During the event, the participants engaged in fun Khmer traditional games such as Pong rut kon kromom, Bos Angkonh, Veay Ka’om, Teanh Prort, and other games. It was a joyous celebration of participating in those games which can make them more fun, full of joy, and also get to know new people from different places.
Moreover, there was Khmer Buddhist chanting for the upcoming Khmer New Year. The chanting was believed to bring good wishes and auspicious luck to everyone in attendance, imbuing the air with a sense of reverence and anticipation for the festivities to come. The gentle, rhythmic verses echoed through the halls, creating an atmosphere of tranquility and spiritual renewal as the community prepared to welcome the new year. A major tradition during Songkran is the throwing or splashing of water. This symbolizes cleansing and washing away bad luck to welcome the new year. People often gather together with water from buckets, water guns, and hoses. The water splashing is seen as a playful and fun way to celebrate the holiday. It brings people together and helps cool people off during the hot summer. After the long celebration during the day, there was a music performance by the KIT students. The participants sat on Khmer mats while enjoying the music. There was also a small Aozora market, and most of the foods and products were from the local communities. The local people showcased their foods and products to the visitors and all the participants so that they could support the local community.
Overall, the event was a joyous celebration of Khmer heritage, where traditional cultural elements were preserved and integrated into the present-day festivities, fostering a sense of community.
